Following on from the Government's announcement yesterday evening (Monday 4th January 2021), we wanted to provide an update on what LSU’s provision will look like, as well as reassure you that we are looking for the best ways to support you throughout this lockdown period.
The Union Building
Whilst the majority of the Loughborough Students' Union building will be closed (including the first-floor office spaces), Piazza will remain open (9.00am - 5.00pm, Monday-Friday) as a dedicated study space for those who remain in Loughborough. This space will continue to operate on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available for independent study only (1 person per table).
We recognise the well-being benefits associated with being able to study in a different environment and are determined to provide this, complimenting the space offered by the university library.
Shops and Cafés
Both the Union Building Spar Shop and the Purple Onion will remain open and continue to provide you with any essentials you may need should you require them.
We’ll also be continuing to operate the ‘LSU Click and Collect’ Service' - helping you get your hands on the essentials, from fruit and veg through to loo roll and soap. We've worked with our suppliers to find a great selection of fresh fruit and veg, household items, and more.
Simply pick your items, add them to your basket, and collect from the Union Shop.

The College Shop: Closed until further notice.
The Art Shop: Closed until further notice.
The Stash Shop: Closed until further notice. However, a range of university-branding clothing will be available within The Union Building Shop.
The Daily Grind: Close until further notice.
Munch: Closed until further notice.
Reception/Helpdesk: Our Helpdesk will remain closed, however we have a team who are more than happy to help via email, Facebook or Twitter.
Support and Advice
Welfare and wellbeing-related support will continue to be offered virtually through our Welfare & Diversity section. Alex, your Welfare & Diversity Executive Officer, can be contacted via email, Facebook, or Twitter. Our welfare and minority and liberation groups will continue to operate virtually; for more information follow the Welfare & Diversity social media channels detailed above.
LSU Advice will be operating virtually and offering independent, confidential advice to students on both our Loughborough and London campuses. This includes support with mitigating circumstances claims, academic misconduct, and complaints. The team can be contacted via the email addresses below:
Nightline is continuing to operate its instant messenger service, 4-days a week for confidential, anonymous support.

Officers & Sectional Activity
The Executive remain in constant dialogue with University and College colleagues, as well as local stakeholders including the Council, Public Health England and the Police. All officers remain contactable via email, and virtual meetings can also be organised with each of them. Full contact details for the Executive Officers and Section Chairs can be found on the LSU website.
All sections will be operating 100% digitally during the national lockdown. To find out the status of a particular society, club, student group, project, or associated activity, reach out to the relevant officer. Each section will be posting specific updates via their dedicated social media channels.
COVID Community Champions will continue to operate throughout the national lockdown, supporting students in Loughborough who are required to self-isolate. Requests for deliveries of parcels, groceries, medication, library books, printing, and sanitary products can be submitted, free of charge, via our dedicated form.

Student Staff Support
Throughout these uncertain times, we will also continue to offer financial support to our student staff members through the Government’s furlough scheme. As before, the same conditions will apply, and we will continue to utilise the scheme until LSU is in a position to recommence employment opportunities to our student members.
As always, we continue to work closely with the University regarding our response to COVID-19 and will provide continue to provide guidance through our social media channels and the ‘COVID-19 Hub’ on our website. We intend to regularly review the above arrangements and will endeavour to update you and our website with any changes as and when we make them
It is important that you continue to follow the government’s advice and guidance. You should also ensure you follow guidance around symptoms and continue to monitor the Loughborough University social media channels and website for key updates relating to campus.
Although campus life and the provisions you have come to know and love LSU for will look different for the next few weeks, I and the rest of the Executive and wider Union team remaining committed to supporting, representing and providing for you.
